Two distinct character traits appeared again and again in Distinguished Professor Ruth Ellen Kocher’s nomination letters for the 2023 Excellence in Leadership Award: her capacity to connect with colleagues on a personal level and her ability to translate those colleague’s needs into practical, actionable plans. “I’m not doing this for power,” Kocher said. “But I see a problem and I see a need and I see people who benefit if we fix this problem.”
The University of Colorado Board of Regents has announced the 2024 list of individuals receiving Honorary Degrees, Distinguished Service Awards and University Medals. Upon the recommendation of the Regents Awards Selection Committee, the full Board of Regents in November approved the nominees. Each recipient has been invited to attend a campus commencement ceremony to accept an award; the dates and locations are to be announced.

The National Institutes of Health recently awarded $54 million to the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The grant’s principal investigators are Ronald J. Sokol, M.D., Distinguished Professor of pediatrics, and Janine Higgins, Ph.D., professor of medicine. Together, they work toward realizing CCTSI’s vision to accelerate and catalyze the translation of innovative science into improved, equitable health and patient care for all.
