President Saliman, members of Board of Regents join summer outreach tour in northwestern Colorado
President Todd Saliman, Board of Regents Vice Chair Ken Montera, Regent Lesley Smith and other CU leaders joined the second outreach tour of the summer, this time traveling to northwestern Colorado July 22-24.
The itinerary included stops in Craig, Steamboat Springs, Gypsum, Eagle and Keystone. The event followed a successful tour in west-central Colorado in June and continues the mission to foster connections and engage with local communities through various education-centric discussions.
Among the tour’s highlights was July 22’s CU Community Info Night in Steamboat Springs. The event provided families, students and community leaders a chance to connect with representatives from CU Boulder, CU Denver and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Admissions representatives offered an overview of each campus and answered attendees' questions. Also, The College Place provided valuable insights into the FAFSA process, financial aid options and making college affordable.
“We have incredible things going on at each of our four campuses, and we want to share with you the process of applying should you consider attending,” President Saliman said during his opening remarks at the CU Community Info Night. “We want to make sure you make the right choice for you.”
On Day One, the group was also given a campus tour of Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC). Founded in 1962 as Rangely College, CNCC now serves nearly 1,600 students on two campuses (in Craig and Rangely), two service centers and online. CNCC is known for its aviation and dental hygiene programs.
The first day of the trip also included discussions with Northwest Area School Districts and the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), and a business community meeting hosted by the Craig Chamber of Commerce.
On Day Two, CU leaders spent the morning in Steamboat Springs, having conversations that included Routt County Public Health and Human Services and the Integrated Community, before departing for Keystone, where leaders attended the Rural Schools Alliance Golf Tournament Reception.
The group concluded the three-day tour with discussions in Gypsum with Eagle County, My Future Pathways, Youth Power 365, and the Eagle County School District, all focusing on educational initiatives and workforce development.
Overall, CU’s summer outreach tours reaffirm the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence in education, research innovation and community service. More outreach activities are planned in the coming weeks.
