The Office of Policy and Efficiency (OPE) has announced the approval of a new administrative policy statement – APS7009 - Protection of Children Participating in University-Run and University-Contracted Programs for Children – which clarifies the expectations and outlines campus requirements to provide for the protection of children who are participating in programs for children on campuses.

The policy applies to all university-operated and university-contracted programs for children and any unaffiliated program operators who operate programs for children on university-owned facilities.

CU offers many educational, cultural, service learning, volunteer, athletic and other programs specifically for children. Operating programs for children creates obligations for the host campus to protect children. Campuses also are obligated to design and operate their programs for children in compliance with state and federal law, as well as with this policy and related procedures.

The new policy was developed in consultation with the campus compliance coordinators, campus attorneys and risk management. It was reviewed by the campus chancellors and approved by President Bruce Benson before it took effect on Oct. 4.
