The Office of Policy and Efficiency (OPE) has announced additional revisions to APS 5060 - Faculty Appointments, effective Sept. 1, 2020.

When the restructured and reorganized Article 5: Faculty and Policy 5: Faculty were presented to the Board of Regents for approval in September 2018, the administration committed to providing a second promotion opportunity for instructors. The intention was to introduce a new faculty title with the adoption of APS 5060 - Faculty Appointments, which went into effect on July 1, 2020.

In drafting APS 5060, it became clear that a thorough review of faculty titles was needed, and any new titles should be considered in the context of broader changes to the policy. This could not be accomplished in time for a July 1, 2020, implementation; however, the administration was committed to creating a second promotional opportunity for instructors and continued to engage faculty in those conversations over the summer of 2020.

The new updates will include allowing:

  • Campuses to develop working titles to accommodate specific requirements of their disciplines; and
  • A second-promotional opportunity for instructors (“Principal Instructor”).

The proposed changes were reviewed by the campus chancellors and approved by President Mark Kennedy.
