President Todd Saliman on Wednesday delivered his charge to the Strategic Planning Working Group, officially kicking off the process of crafting CU Strategic Plan 2.0, the next iteration of the university’s systemwide strategic plan.

The Strategic Planning Working Group – led by co-chairs Dr. Lynn Vidler, provost at UCCS, and Chad Marturano, vice president and chief financial officer for the CU system – consists of faculty, staff and administrators from all four campuses and CU system. The systemwide group is tasked with developing a plan that will align with CU’s mission and vision and guide the university’s growth and success in the years ahead.

In delivering his charge to the working group, Saliman urged members to “think big” about CU’s future. He shared the thematic areas that emerged in discussions with the Board of Regents at its July 2024 retreat about the next wave of strategic planning. The primary themes include connecting deeply to the state of Colorado; leading and aspiring to excellence; serving all of Colorado’s communities; making bold choices, remaining nimble and prioritizing well; and preparing students to build a healthy and competitive future for Colorado and the nation.

Saliman expressed his gratitude to the Strategic Planning Working Group members for their service and asked them to deliver a final draft plan “that is thoughtful and ready for implementation with clear pathways for accountability and evaluation” by June 2026. The final Strategic Plan 2.0 will be presented to the Board of Regents at its July 2026 retreat. CU’s inaugural 2021-2026 Strategic Plan remains the university’s guiding document through June 2026.

The Strategic Planning Working Group will meet regularly, beginning this fall, to discuss key priorities and gather input from the broader university community. Stay tuned for information about upcoming opportunities to participate in the planning process.
