The Center for the Study of Origins is pleased to announce a special lecture by Dr. Seth Sanders, from the University of California, Davis.

"The Paradox of the Alphabet: Did Illiterate People Invent the World's Most Powerful Writing System?"

The idea of writing has occurred to people multiple times in history but the alphabet was invented only once. The most influential technology to come from the ancient world, the alphabet’s origins are still shrouded in mystery—but some startling recent discoveries have brought us closer to a solution. This talk brings these discoveries together with a new approach integrating digital analysis of inscriptions with linguistics and anthropology to cast new light on the alphabet’s original meaning and ultimate impact on humanity.
