The Regents Governance Committee last week took early steps in the latest review of laws and policies of the Board of Regents.

Items discussed during the Aug. 22 committee meeting, held at 1800 Grant St. and via webinar, included Regent Policy 3.C and 3.D, which pertain to searches for administrators and guidelines for the appointment of chief officers of the university.

Current Regent Policy 3.C addresses searches for Officers of the University, and Officers of the Administration. System administration is proposing that the current policy be divided in two for better organization and readability:

  • Searches for Officers of the University and Chancellors (including the President, University Counsel and Secretary of the Board, Associate Vice President of Internal Audit, and Treasurer), Regent Policy 3.C
  • Searches for Officers of the Administration (including those with the title of interim or acting vice president; associate vice president; vice chancellor; associate vice chancellor; associate counsel; and deans of the schools, colleges, and libraries), Regent Policy 3.D

The current draft includes community member feedback gathered in recent years and reflects changes to terminology that has evolved over time.

A notice of motion will be made at the September Board of Regents meeting, but no action will be taken. The Governance Committee will again discuss the matter at its Oct. 24 meeting before deciding whether to advance changes to the full board for consideration.

The committee also reviewed feedback on the Board of Regents summer retreat, began discussing a potential location for the board’s winter retreat and voted to approve the committee’s  work plan for the 2024-25 year.

The full Board of Regents is scheduled to meet Sept. 12 and 13 at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The next Governance Committee meeting is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 1800 Grant St.
