Tom Noel, professor of history at the University of Colorado Denver, has received the Denver Public Library’s Elanor Gehres Award. Noel, known as Dr. Colorado, is the 12th recipient of the award. He is being honored for his longstanding support and involvement with the library, especially the Western History and Genealogy Department. Gehres directed the department for 25 years. Noel will give a historic tour of LoDo on Wednesday, Oct. 19, during homecoming; to sign up, visit the homecoming website. … Lisa Keränen, associate professor and director of graduate studies of the University of Colorado Denver Department of Communication, has received the National Communication Association’s 2011 Marie Hochmuth Nichols Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Public Address for her book “Scientific Characters: Rhetoric, Politics and Trust in Breast Cancer Research.”
