We are working to co-host a special screening of the movie Wonder (being released Nov. 2017) with the CU Anschutz School of Dental Medicine.  The movie screening will feature comments from Francis Smith, PhD Smith who has Treacher Collins syndrome, a genetic disorder that strikes one in 50,000 births and is just one of upward of 20 birth defects that impede normal development of the bones and tissues of the head and face. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at CU Anschutz and is studying genome sequencing reads, looking for mutations around the syndrome. The movie is based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out. REGISTRATION COMING IN NOV.
