CU Denver's School of Public Affairs First Friday Breakfast -Taking the Temperature on Denver’s Civic Health

Friday, September 1, 2017
7:30am – 9:00am
Terrace Room (2nd floor), 1380 Lawrence Street, Denver

The political and civic health of our nation may be questioned at this time, but many local communities are functioning effectively and making progress on important issues. In addition to government, the “civic sector” - nonprofits and community members acting in their roles as voters, volunteers, activists, connectors, collaborators – is critical to providing the “social capital” that helps build community.

With Denver’s continuing and sometimes inequitable growth, we wonder: What is the state of Denver’s civic health today? We’ll cover volunteerism, voting, community and neighborhood partnerships, as well as equity/inequity for people who have been involved in the justice system.

We've assembled a diverse group of Denverites to discuss this issue:

Panelists:

  • Doug Linkhart, President, National Civic League
  • Miriam Peña, Director, Office of Strategic Partnerships, City and County of Denver
  • Kristy Judd, Executive Director, Metro Volunteers
  • Juston Cooper, Deputy Director, Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition

Moderator: Lisa VanRaemdonck, Executive Director, School of Public Affairs Institute
